3 Tips on Wearing Dresses in the Winter

Hello everyone! Wow it’s been a bit! After a week of scheduling, going to classes, and planning for the future, I’ve finally had some time during my February break to write a little bit! I really like the winter, but the only downside is not being able to show off cute clothes. Everyone is in a coat and unless you’re trying to stay cozy indoors, there’s no great way to rock an outfit when it’s chilly out! I especially miss pulling out my dresses. Lucky for you, I have some pro tips for creating some great dress-fits that don’t mind the cold as much.

  1. Wear Tights- This may seem like an obvious one, but I see ladies all over my campus that look absolutely miserable going to classes or special events because they’re trying to face the snow and wind in bare legs. For the love of soft skin and lack of hypothermia, tights were created for a reason! You can pull of sheer, black tights with just about any outfit (even rompers/jumpsuits) as well as colorful tights to spice up and outfit. And if your dress calls for bare legs, there’s also skin-toned tights to make your legs seem bare but allow you to stay warm! Do yourself a favor and don’t freeze to death!
  2. Layer With a Sweater- This is my favorite tip. You can add a little flavor to any outfit by adding a cardigan or pullover sweater to a seemingly cold outfit. You’ll keep warm and look super cute! If your dress doesn’t have as much detail, it’s a great way to add texture and a pop of something different. Depending on how cold it is (PLEASE keep in mind the weather), you may not even need a jacket! It’s an artsy and classy way of wearing a sweatshirt over a dress, but you look cuter!
  3. Wear an Undershirt. I know I’ve definitely regretted putting on a tank top when I can feel a breeze going straight through my shirt or sweater. It’s not fun, especially in temperatures below freezing. Wearing a tank top is a small way to stay warm and isn’t noticeable at all. You will thank yourself for wearing a cami or tank when the wind chill is in the negatives and you have to dress up for a presentation!

I like mixing different patterns with my outfits to make the details pop!

I’m looking forward to ditching some my snow boots for some sandals and sitting out in the sun! I know it’s coming, we just have to believe. 😉 Have a wonderful day, stay warm, and don’t forget to bundle up when you’re ready to look cute!

Winter Glam

It is absolutely awful out! In Michigan, there’s a -42 windchill set for tomorrow, so thank goodness my school decided to cancel class and activities for tomorrow! It gives me the chance to catch up on some much needed rest, reflection, and chill time. Despite the terrible weather, I’ve had so much fun this past month pulling some outfits together. This one is definitely one of my favorites that I’ve put together!

My top is from Madewell. It was on sale when I bought it and I was overjoyed! I love the details on the arms and the bottom of the shirt. Plus, I’m a sucker for velvet and the color is so flattering on anyone (even on sad, pale people like myself)! It’s also a rare in-between kind of shirt where you could dress it up or down depending on what you’re wearing it for. It’s perfect for going out, a business interview, audition, or even a fun everyday top!

My pants are from Topshop. I had been eyeing them for awhile in Nordstrom because I thought they were the cutest. Thankfully, they went on sale and then I had a gift card. The detailing is so fun and I love that the colors are all neutrals. The silver brings such a fun pop to the outfit. I wear them all the time!

My boots are from Clarks! I’ve mentioned them so many times before, but I’ve worn them almost every day since I’ve gotten them. They’re really durable and for people who have wide feet, they’re so comfortable. They also have great arch support. I’ve worn them all over Chicago for a day and didn’t feel any pain in my feet. Plus, they’re so classic!

That’s all I have for today. I’m gonna make myself some hot chocolate tonight and get a lot of sleep. Stay warm out there and bundle up! You’re going to need it!

Managing Money and a Cute Wardrobe

College breaks seem to go by so quickly! It feels like I’ve barely been at home and pretty soon, I only have a week left. It’s so nice to be able to take a break from classes, stress, and get away from the Midwest for a little longer. This past semester seemed like the clouds coming in for the big storm. As a senior, I have been knowing that I’m onto bigger and better things soon, but the reality of moving on to another chapter has not sunk in yet. I know some of my other seniors can relate or others who have been in my position at one point!

As this has sunken in, saving up for whatever my next adventure is has also REALLY started to sink in. As much as I love fashion, performing arts, and all things creative, it’s been hard this year to save up and still support the things I love to do. The realization I’ve come to in college is EVERYTHING IS SO EXPENSIVE. I’ve really enjoyed how nice it is to shop on sale and find the good bargains when I want to hit the stores. Thankfully, I’ve gotten to do so!

My shirt and pants were both on sale which was so nice! (Otherwise, I honestly wouldn’t have gotten it because ya girl has got to save.) My shirt is from American Eagle and my jeans are Free People, but I found them at Nordstrom Rack. If you don’t usually read my fashion posts, most/all the Free People items I’ve found are either VERY on sale or very discounted at Nordstrom Rack. Ain’t nobody got time for Free People’s overpriced products, no matter how cute and nice they are! Also, my hat was a lovely gift from a family friend and I was so excited to get it because I don’t usually spend money on hats/accessories often. It’s from Pacsun! My shoes are also from Clarks and the closest model I could find to mine is linked here.

To all my friends trying to save money, my advice is always go to Nordstrom Rack, and also never forget to check the sales racks! I’ve always had great luck when I don’t think I’ll find anything.

Have a wonderful night and stay warm!

Exploring Downtown Chicago

I love going into Chicago to spend time with people I care about! My school does a Chicago trip once every year where you can spend the entire day in the city to explore and it’s always so fun. This year I decided to put the perfect outfit together to do a little sight seeing!

My top is from Spring Sweet, a cute boutique in downtown Holland, MI. There are some cute and similar shirts at Forever 21 and Urban Outfitters that are so adorable!

My jeans are from the Gap Outlets and are wonderful to wear with most of my outfits, but you can find a similar pair for a good price at H&M and ASOS.

I got my ankle boots from TJ Maxx and they’re from the brand Clarks. The most similar pair of shoes I’ve found is from DSW and the shoes are Lucky Brand! They are so cute and you could wear them with anything!

My necklace is also from Spring Sweet and although they don’t have it on their website, I found a cute second option from Madewell that’s simple and classy.

Lastly, my beret is from a New York City street vendor when I was 11 years old! I haven’t worn this beret in years but as berets have come back in style, I dug it out from the bottom of my closet! You can find berets just about anywhere, and some of my favorites are from Free People and Madewell.

I had such a fun time feeling chic and walking through the city! Luckily it was such a beautiful day out that I barely needed my jacket to enjoy the city!

Last First Day Outfit!!!

Hello everyone! Thank you for being patient with me for a bit as I go through some craziness of beginning my SENIOR year!!! Wow! A tiny life update: my roommate/best friend and I changed from on-campus housing to off-campus at the last second so we’ve been couch hopping for a couple days now! Woo hoo! More details on that to come. Luckily I still managed to pull some sort of outfit out of my duffle bag for my last first day! Groovy!

My top is from the Gap outlets. You can get a basic v-neck just about anywhere but I found a very affordable top from Forever 21 which is linked here.

I got my skort from a store called Gliks. I love that it looks like a cute skirt in the front but are high waisted shorts in the back. They’re fun and slightly dressy with stretchy denim to make them very comfortable. It’s currently 50% off and very affordable so go check it out!

My necktie is from Madewell and it’s linked here. I love that it gives a little bit of funk to the entire outfit.

Lastly, my shoes are from Clarks. I haven’t really been drawn to Clarks in the past because they usually have shoes tailored towards middle aged to older adults but I love these wedges so much! They’re leather and have rubber heals which is great for walking in for long periods of time. Those are linked right here. (I added a photo because they weren’t seen well in my first one haha whoops.)
